Hi Reader, The Backyard Gossip is landing in your inbox a little earlier than usual. Tomorrow morning, we’ll be catching the first ferry at 06:15 to explore the Coastal Circle Route. Sunny weather is predicted ☀️ and yes… We’ll be discovering a couple of walks along the way (of course) 🌲👣 If you feel like travelling along from home, keep an eye on my Instagram stories, maybe even sparking some inspiration for your next adventure. Now, on to something I wanted to share with you: this is a question I get asked often, about setting goals and achieving them 😏 So here we go... For the first time in a long time, I don’t have big, shiny goals set for the year ahead. Apart from acing my MBA, finding an internship, and eventually transitioning into a “normal” job that truly sits in my zone of genius, there’s no dramatic reinvention planned for 2026 🤪 What I do want is to maintain a few things that matter deeply to me:
None of this is new; I’ve been doing these things for years already. But somewhere along the way, I noticed something shifting. What once felt intentional started to feel like ticking boxes. Automatic. Unconscious. Something to “get done” rather than something to be in. And then that familiar inner voice popped up: Practice what you preach, Peggy 🫣 So I changed the question I was asking myself. Instead of “How do I do all of this better?” I asked: 👉 What’s the bare minimum I need to do to still feel aligned? For me, that looks like this (just to name a couple):
And honestly? That simple shift changed everything. By defining my minimums, I removed pressure. By lowering the entry point, I brought back intention. Most days, I naturally do more. But even on the busy days, the full days, the days where time slips through my fingers, I still show up. Because, to be honest, those are the days I usually need that time for myself the most 🤨 This week, I even went on a couple of evening walks. Not because I had time during the day (I didn’t), but because 10 minutes felt doable. And once outside, I realized how incredibly relaxing it was. I probably wouldn’t have gone at all if my “rule” had been stricter. No, I know for sure I would have easily come up with several excuses NOT to go. That’s the magic of minimums: They keep you moving when perfection would have stopped you. For me, it’s not about doing more; it’s about maintaining consistency and momentum, keeping a rhythm that feels good. And maybe even more importantly… I’ve started to plan all of this back into my planner again. Not rigidly. Not obsessively. Until then, I’m curious: Where could a bare minimum help you stay in motion instead of standing still? Chat next week! Peggy 🌿 P.S. If this resonated, hit reply as I’d love to know what’s one “why” you’ve maybe lost sight of? Backyard Gossip | Stories about life, business & the spaces in between |

View in browser Hi Reader, Last Saturday, I joined the brand new Beban Parkrun here in Nanaimo for the first time. I'm not new to Parkrun. We used to go regularly when we lived in South Africa, and I still have some lovely memories from those mornings 🏃♀️ This is me 👇🏼, 10 years ago with Wis (the then pup of very close friends of mine), you can tell from my red face this picture was taken after the Parkrun 😆 But this time was a little different. I'm slowly getting back to jogging after...
View in browser Hi Reader, Last week, I shared the story of my old bicycle and how a quick visit to the bike shop turned my sweaty 40-minute commute into a smooth 26-minute one. But something else happened that I really didn't see coming. Honestly, the reason I decided to cycle to the Chamber of Commerce wasn't profound. It was practical. I knew that if I didn't build movement into my day, I simply… wouldn't. (Anyone else? 😅) So cycling became my one-hour daily guarantee. But what surprised...
View in browser Hi Reader, Three weeks ago, I started my MBA internship at the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce. (And no, before you ask, the electric bike still hasn't happened 😅) The office is about 7 km from home, so I figured… time to dust off the old bicycle. Pedal power straight from the legs. How hard could it be? Well… let me paint the picture. Out of 24 gears, I could only use about 1/3 of them. And in case you've never been here, Nanaimo is not flat. I needed every single one of...
