Simplicity is underrated (and harder than it looks) 😬

Hi Reader

I just came back from a two-week break.

No big trip. No grand adventures. Just a slower pace.

The MBA semester has started again, and before diving back into the full swing of classes, I savoured some simple joys, like my Wednesday morning ritual.

Every week, for 8 weeks straight, I joined a sunrise paddleboard group.

No phone. No notifications. Just good company, water, light, and the quiet strength it takes to balance. 🌅

And honestly? That simplicity has been everything.

It reminded me of a workshop I led with high school students this summer.

I asked them a question:

👉 What’s one change you could make today to become the leader you want to be tomorrow?

Their answers came fast. Lists. Ideas. Ambitions.

But when I asked them to pick just one?

That’s when it got hard.

And isn’t that the case for all of us?

We want to fix everything at once.

Do all the things. Change the world.

And then… we overwhelm ourselves.

We get stuck.

And nothing changes.

Keeping it simple isn’t easy.

But it’s the only way forward.

So here’s your gentle reminder:

  • You don’t need to do everything at once.
  • Pick one thing. Take one step.
  • And let that be enough for today!

This is the first in a new series I’m calling Keep It Simple.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing stories and reflections on how simplicity shows up in leadership, business, and life. Because often, it’s the small, uncomplicated things that make the biggest difference.

View in browser Hi Reader, Peggy doesn't like uphills. And uphills don't like Peggy 😅 (And no, I can't just find a flat trail. Nanaimo is hilly.) Let me back up. As you might know, I'm back to jogging after my ankle recovery. The goal? 5K under 33:33 (yes, I like a very specific number 🤓). For now, I'm walking and jogging. And it's going pretty well… Until I hit an uphill. Then… I struggle. Same story with cycling. There's no "beam me up, Scotty" option here (Google this if you have...

View in browser Hi Reader, A friend of mine shared something recently that's been rattling around in my head ever since, and yes, I asked permission to share 😉 Something she'd been working on hadn't gone the way she'd hoped. She was disappointed. Really disappointed. When she got home that evening, her father asked if she was ready to listen. And when she nodded, he said: "You know how to do the work. Now you need to learn how to get the work done." Let that sit with you for a moment. Because...

View in browser Hi Reader, Last week, I shared the story of how a single phone check derailed my whole morning routine. It ended with me listening to some random stranger's music choice, out loud, at the gym. Today, I want to take that thread a little further. Because every morning, as part of that same routine, I also read what are called Afformations. Not Affirmations. Afformations 🤓 (Credit to Noah St. John, who coined the concept back in 1997.) The difference is small. But powerful....
