What Happens When You Go Alone 🤨

Hi Reader,

This week I was reminded (again) of something we all know… but still need to experience over and over:

Stepping out of your comfort zone gets easier.

Not the first time though 😅

Earlier this week, I attended a leadership series event organized by the Chamber of Commerce. By the way, with a very powerful keynote speaker!

And yes, I still go to these events on my own. Because I realized early on in life that if I had to wait for a friend to join, I would still be waiting for some things 🙄

Anyway, I clearly remember the first time I walked into one of those rooms. You know exactly what I'm talking about... You feel awkward, you don't know anyone, and you don't know where to stand or what to say!

Oh, and let's not forget to mention that internal voice: “What am I doing here?” 😅

But here’s the interesting part 👉🏼 Fast forward to now, I still walk into those rooms alone, but I’m greeted.

People know my name (yes, I was surprised as well), I recognize faces and conversations start more naturally. It doesn’t feel as awkward anymore, even when I'm meeting new people.

Why?

Because at some point, I stepped outside of that comfort zone. And once you do that a couple of times… it becomes your new normal.

That same reminder showed up again this week in a different way.

I organized my first entrepreneurship workshop at VIU (hopefully the first of many 👀), and a friend joined.

She walked into a completely new environment, didn’t know anyone, felt nervous, and yes, had that same thought: “What am I doing here?”

(Sounds familiar, right?)

But afterwards, she said something that made me smile: “It was actually fun. I should do this more.”

Because here’s the thing.

The people who show up to these events, workshops, or networking spaces… you already have something in common.

And that makes connecting a lot easier than we think.

So maybe stepping out of your comfort zone isn’t about doing something extreme.

Maybe it’s just about walking into a room… and staying long enough to realize you belong there too.

Chat next week,

Peggy 🌿

P.S. What’s one room you’ve been hesitating to walk into?

View in browser Hi Reader, My morning routine is religious to me. Before I get pulled in a hundred directions, before the day takes over, before the emails start lining up… I take time for myself. A little yoga. Meditation. Some reading. Journaling. Three mornings a week, the gym. A short walk after. (Yes, before you ask. I get up really early 😅) I learned a long time ago that if I don't do these things first thing, I just don't get around to them. The day eats them. So I protect that window....

View in browser Hi Reader, Last Saturday, I joined the brand new Beban Parkrun here in Nanaimo for the first time. I'm not new to Parkrun. We used to go regularly when we lived in South Africa, and I still have some lovely memories from those mornings 🏃♀️ This is me 👇🏼, 10 years ago with Wis (the then pup of very close friends of mine), you can tell from my red face this picture was taken after the Parkrun 😆 But this time was a little different. I'm slowly getting back to jogging after...

View in browser Hi Reader, Last week, I shared the story of my old bicycle and how a quick visit to the bike shop turned my sweaty 40-minute commute into a smooth 26-minute one. But something else happened that I really didn't see coming. Honestly, the reason I decided to cycle to the Chamber of Commerce wasn't profound. It was practical. I knew that if I didn't build movement into my day, I simply… wouldn't. (Anyone else? 😅) So cycling became my one-hour daily guarantee. But what surprised...
