Hi Reader, Last Friday, the second Friday of January, is also known as Quitter’s Day. The day most people quietly let go of their New Year’s resolutions, yes, it's a thing 🙃 I wrote a full blog post about why this happens (you can read it here if you’re curious). But what really stood out to me this week wasn’t the statistics, it was the conversations. In several coaching sessions and in a few casual chats, the same theme kept popping up: 👉 we often forget why we started in the first place. Somewhere along the way, things shift to autopilot. Or we reach a crossroad and question our next steps in life, study, work, or business. The motivation fades, not because we don’t care… but because we’ve lost touch with the bigger picture. And trust me, I need to remind myself often why I do what I do 😅 This isn’t something you “figure out once.” It’s something you come back to. The same thing happens with New Year’s resolutions. Take something simple, like cutting down on alcohol. Was it just “something to try”? Or was it because drinking less helps you sleep better, and sleeping better means you’re more present, more patient, more energized, and more aligned with the person you want to be? That’s where your why lives. Somewhere along my coaching journey, I learned a tool called the 7 Whys. I can’t remember which coach I learned it from, but I’ve used it ever since because it’s incredibly powerful. Here’s how it works. Let’s say your resolution was: I want to go for a walk every day. Why? Because I want to move my body. Why? Because I feel better when I move. Why? Because movement clears my head. Why? Because when my head is clear, I’m more patient and focused. Why? Because I want to show up calmer, for my family, my work, and myself. Why? Because I don’t want to live life feeling rushed and reactive. Why? Because I want a life that feels intentional and grounded. ✨ That’s the why that carries you on the days when motivation disappears (or when the days are dark and wet and I really don't feel like going for that walk 🤪). So… if you fell off the wagon last Friday, don’t be part of the statistics. Nothing is lost. Instead:
This wasn’t a failure. It was just a practice run. So give yourself the permission to start again 😊 And by the way, practice is how anything meaningful is built. Talk soon, Peggy 🌿 P.S. If this resonated, hit reply as I’d love to know what’s one “why” you’ve maybe lost sight of? Backyard Gossip | Stories about life, business & the spaces in between |

View in browser Hi Reader, I’ve been a bit quiet the past couple of weeks. Buried in tests and assignments, with two more tests, a final exam, and a presentation remaining, I can finally see the finish line of the classroom portion of my MBA journey. In the meantime, there has been plenty of time to reflect. So… not the most exciting stories to share these past weeks 🤣 But a conversation at dinner a few days ago has really stayed with me. We were having dinner with friends in their 70s. Avid...
View in browser Hi Reader, This week I was reminded (again) of something we all know… but still need to experience over and over: Stepping out of your comfort zone gets easier. Not the first time though 😅 Earlier this week, I attended a leadership series event organized by the Chamber of Commerce. By the way, with a very powerful keynote speaker! And yes, I still go to these events on my own. Because I realized early on in life that if I had to wait for a friend to join, I would still be...
View in browser Hi Reader, Last week I spent a week skiing in Whistler, yes, I (we) had a wonderful time, and I was even in the Olympic Spirit 😊 ⛷️ And it reminded me of something I hadn’t thought about in a while: the joy of being a beginner again. Besides the two days of skiing last year, the last time I went skiing for a whole week was in 2014 😅 Over the past year, I’ve been embracing that beginner mindset a lot, mostly thanks to my MBA journey. When you’re learning constantly, you’re...
