A Gentle Reminder (I Need This Too 😅)

Hi Reader,

Last Friday, the second Friday of January, is also known as Quitter’s Day.

The day most people quietly let go of their New Year’s resolutions, yes, it's a thing 🙃

I wrote a full blog post about why this happens (you can read it here if you’re curious). But what really stood out to me this week wasn’t the statistics, it was the conversations.

In several coaching sessions and in a few casual chats, the same theme kept popping up: 👉 we often forget why we started in the first place.

Somewhere along the way, things shift to autopilot. Or we reach a crossroad and question our next steps in life, study, work, or business.

The motivation fades, not because we don’t care… but because we’ve lost touch with the bigger picture.

And trust me, I need to remind myself often why I do what I do 😅

This isn’t something you “figure out once.” It’s something you come back to.

The same thing happens with New Year’s resolutions.

Take something simple, like cutting down on alcohol.

Was it just “something to try”?

Or was it because drinking less helps you sleep better, and sleeping better means you’re more present, more patient, more energized, and more aligned with the person you want to be?

That’s where your why lives.

Somewhere along my coaching journey, I learned a tool called the 7 Whys. I can’t remember which coach I learned it from, but I’ve used it ever since because it’s incredibly powerful.

Here’s how it works.

Let’s say your resolution was: I want to go for a walk every day.

Why?

Because I want to move my body.

Why?

Because I feel better when I move.

Why?

Because movement clears my head.

Why?

Because when my head is clear, I’m more patient and focused.

Why?

Because I want to show up calmer, for my family, my work, and myself.

Why?

Because I don’t want to live life feeling rushed and reactive.

Why?

Because I want a life that feels intentional and grounded.

✨ That’s the why that carries you on the days when motivation disappears (or when the days are dark and wet and I really don't feel like going for that walk 🤪).

So… if you fell off the wagon last Friday, don’t be part of the statistics.

Nothing is lost.

Instead:

  • Revisit your why
  • Write it down somewhere you’ll see it
  • Visualize what it gives you access to
  • And gently step back in

This wasn’t a failure. It was just a practice run. So give yourself the permission to start again 😊

And by the way, practice is how anything meaningful is built.

Talk soon,

Peggy 🌿

P.S. If this resonated, hit reply as I’d love to know what’s one “why” you’ve maybe lost sight of?

View in browser Hi Reader, A short and sweet note this week, I’m off to Whistler for a week of skiing ❄️⛷️ But, I wanted to share this little story with you... Last week, while sitting in a waiting room (one of those unexpected pockets of time), I decided to make the most of it and catch up with a few friends. And then I noticed something. I was texting people in Belgium, South Africa, USA, Sweden, France, Switzerland, Australia and yes, in Canada as well 😅 My gosh! In my MBA cohort alone, my...

View in browser Hi Reader, Last week I had a not-so-nice reminder about something I talk about all the time: The importance of clarity. I had an upcoming quiz in my MBA program, and, wanting to prepare properly (hey, you know me 😏), I reached out twice to clarify exactly what we were expected to study. No response. Crickets. I went into the quiz thinking I had prepared for what was required… and walked out feeling frustrated and honestly a bit angry. Because what I thought we had to study...

View in browser Hi Reader, This week, I found myself thinking about one of my coaching clients, an adventurer at heart and soul. She has an amazing idea for her own business. The kind of idea you can feel in the way someone talks about it. Right now, she’s still studying, and earlier this year, she enrolled in a business program to ensure she’s fully prepared when it's time to launch her venture. A thoughtful decision. A prepared decision. But a few weeks in, something interesting happened....
