It all starts by putting your phone down... 📵

Hi Reader

You might have seen it pass by on social media, but last week I was invited to lead a workshop for a summer leadership camp with high school students. (Yes, real teens. In real life. With real opinions.) And YES, it made me a bit nervous 😬

Theme? “How to stay sustainable as a future leader in a fast-paced world.”

Let me tell you, it was awesome!

Even though a few kids dozed off during the workshop. 😅 (And no, I didn’t take it personally. Testing authority of their counsellors during summer camp is practically a job requirement at 16.)

But here’s what surprised me:

These kids were lightyears ahead of where I was at that age.
They got it.
They talked about boundaries. Energy. Mental health.
They knew that staying grounded mattered more than staying busy.

And when I asked who wanted to get an A at school. every single hand shot up.

So I told them:

“I’m not in the A group… I’m an A+.”

Cue the laughter. 🤓

I also want to add that I shared with them that I'm a recovering perfectionist and that sometimes it's okay to get a B.

But here’s the part that really struck me:
They didn’t have their phones with them.
Not just for the day...
For the entire camp 🤯

They were forced to get to know each other.
To talk.
To laugh.
To connect with strangers… the old-fashioned way.

And maybe that’s the thread this whole series has been weaving:
We can’t connect if we’re constantly distracted.
Sometimes, talking to strangers starts with simply putting the phone down.

So whether you’re 16 or 61, here’s a reminder:
The best conversations don’t happen when you’re scrolling.
They happen when you’re present.
And maybe a little bored.
And definitely a little brave.

Call to action:

💬 This week, try leaving your phone behind on your next walk, coffee run, or moment of downtime. See who or what you notice when your hands and mind are free to connect.

And if you’re ready to reconnect with yourself, your goals, or your next chapter… I’m just a message away. Unless I'm exploring, then it might take a bit longer to reply 😊

Sending you love from Canada 🇨🇦

P.S. Leading the workshop made me realize something: future leaders don’t need more pressure, they need more connection. If you’re feeling the same, hit reply. Let’s chat.

View in browser Hi Reader I just came back from a two-week break. No big trip. No grand adventures. Just a slower pace. The MBA semester has started again, and before diving back into the full swing of classes, I savoured some simple joys, like my Wednesday morning ritual. Every week, for 8 weeks straight, I joined a sunrise paddleboard group. No phone. No notifications. Just good company, water, light, and the quiet strength it takes to balance. 🌅 And honestly? That simplicity has been...

View in browser Hi Reader I'm sure that you can relate to the fact that some of the easiest conversations happen when you least expect them. Like sitting on an airplane, nowhere to go for a couple of hours. Years ago, when I was still living in South Africa, I flew from Cape Town to Nelspruit. An older gentleman was seated next to me. We exchanged the usual polite nods, but the conversation didn’t start until we were about to take off. I noticed he seemed a bit nervous. My curious self...
