Same path, different journey 👣

Hi Reader,

Last week we went to explore the west coast of Vancouver Island. And of course… we ended up at Mystic Beach.

The sign at the start of the trail said: 2 km.
No big deal, right? 😏

Well… let’s just say it wasn’t exactly a paved Sunday stroll.

The trail was filled with tree roots, old wooden platforms, deep mud, and some pretty steep sections, both up and down. At one point, I felt like a kid again in PE class playing “the floor is lava.”

Only this time… the floor was mud 😅

And while we were navigating our way down (and later back up), something else really stood out to me.

Your 2 km is not the same as someone else’s 2 km.

We saw people who seemed to fly over the trail, clearly regulars, confidently placing every step.

But we also saw:

  • people with small kids who had to turn back
  • people without the right shoes
  • people who simply needed more time

And then there was a moment that stayed with me.

On our way back, we passed a couple heading down. When we reached the parking lot, they were just arriving back. Tired… but smiling.

They even applauded us for being back already.

But here’s the thing…

We all walked the same trail.
Yet we all had a completely different experience.

And isn’t that exactly how life and business work?

It’s so easy to look at someone else and think:
“They’re faster.”
“They’ve got it figured out.”
“I should be further by now.”

But you don’t know their path, you don’t know their starting point, you don’t know what they’re carrying.

Your journey isn’t mine.
And mine isn’t yours.

So instead of comparing…

Be curious.
Be inspired.
And maybe most importantly… stay in your own lane.

Because if there is anyone you want to compete with, let it be the person you were yesterday.

And even then… go easy on yourself 😉

Chat next week,
Peggy 🌿

P.S. Where in your life are you comparing your “2 km” to someone else’s?

View in browser Hi Reader, Last Friday, I said goodbye to Building 250, the management building at Vancouver Island University. Not just because it was our last exam, but also because it marked our last class of the MBA program before a two-week break… and then the internship begins. (May the fourth be with me 😏) And yes, I ended in style. With an A+ (sorry, not sorry, grades matter to me for many personal reasons 🤓). But what stayed with me most wasn’t the grade. It was everything around it....

View in browser Hi Reader, I’ve been a bit quiet the past couple of weeks. Buried in tests and assignments, with two more tests, a final exam, and a presentation remaining, I can finally see the finish line of the classroom portion of my MBA journey. In the meantime, there has been plenty of time to reflect. So… not the most exciting stories to share these past weeks 🤣 But a conversation at dinner a few days ago has really stayed with me. We were having dinner with friends in their 70s. Avid...

View in browser Hi Reader, This week I was reminded (again) of something we all know… but still need to experience over and over: Stepping out of your comfort zone gets easier. Not the first time though 😅 Earlier this week, I attended a leadership series event organized by the Chamber of Commerce. By the way, with a very powerful keynote speaker! And yes, I still go to these events on my own. Because I realized early on in life that if I had to wait for a friend to join, I would still be...
