Hi Reader, Last week we went to explore the west coast of Vancouver Island. And of course… we ended up at Mystic Beach. The sign at the start of the trail said: 2 km. Well… let’s just say it wasn’t exactly a paved Sunday stroll. The trail was filled with tree roots, old wooden platforms, deep mud, and some pretty steep sections, both up and down. At one point, I felt like a kid again in PE class playing “the floor is lava.” Only this time… the floor was mud 😅 And while we were navigating our way down (and later back up), something else really stood out to me. Your 2 km is not the same as someone else’s 2 km. We saw people who seemed to fly over the trail, clearly regulars, confidently placing every step. But we also saw:
And then there was a moment that stayed with me. On our way back, we passed a couple heading down. When we reached the parking lot, they were just arriving back. Tired… but smiling. They even applauded us for being back already. But here’s the thing… We all walked the same trail. And isn’t that exactly how life and business work? It’s so easy to look at someone else and think: But you don’t know their path, you don’t know their starting point, you don’t know what they’re carrying. Your journey isn’t mine. So instead of comparing… Be curious. Because if there is anyone you want to compete with, let it be the person you were yesterday. And even then… go easy on yourself 😉 Chat next week, P.S. View in browser Hi Reader, Last Saturday, I joined the brand new Beban Parkrun here in Nanaimo for the first time. I'm not new to Parkrun. We used to go regularly when we lived in South Africa, and I still have some lovely memories from those mornings 🏃♀️ This is me 👇🏼, 10 years ago with Wis (the then pup of very close friends of mine), you can tell from my red face this picture was taken after the Parkrun 😆 But this time was a little different. I'm slowly getting back to jogging after...
View in browser Hi Reader, Last week, I shared the story of my old bicycle and how a quick visit to the bike shop turned my sweaty 40-minute commute into a smooth 26-minute one. But something else happened that I really didn't see coming. Honestly, the reason I decided to cycle to the Chamber of Commerce wasn't profound. It was practical. I knew that if I didn't build movement into my day, I simply… wouldn't. (Anyone else? 😅) So cycling became my one-hour daily guarantee. But what surprised...
View in browser Hi Reader, Three weeks ago, I started my MBA internship at the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce. (And no, before you ask, the electric bike still hasn't happened 😅) The office is about 7 km from home, so I figured… time to dust off the old bicycle. Pedal power straight from the legs. How hard could it be? Well… let me paint the picture. Out of 24 gears, I could only use about 1/3 of them. And in case you've never been here, Nanaimo is not flat. I needed every single one of...
