It's ok to be a percolator ☕️

I'm sure you raised an eyebrow when you read the subject line of this week's Backyard Gossip 🤪 it's a bit of an insider story but a powerful one that I would like to share 🌿 So put on the kettle grab yourself a fresh brew and get comfy Reader 😊

I'm a quick decision-maker, a go-getter as many would call it. As soon as I got something in my mind, I (try to) make it happen. As if my life would depend on it and there is no time to waste!

Over the years, however, I learned that it might not always be the best approach. "Think before you act!" is a sentence I heard a lot in my life. Especially in high school, I would often find myself in detention because of being impulsive 🫣

And to make matters worse, I would drag my - not so impulsive friends - with me. Because, honestly being in detention on your own is not fun 😆

It did teach me a valuable lesson, not everyone is a fast decision maker. Some people just need more time to let the idea seep in and let it brew for a bit before they make up their minds.

While I'm a - one push of the button - Nespresso machine, they are percolators ⏳ And you know what, that's perfectly ok!

One of my coaching clients is such a percolator. She had an idea in her mind of something she wanted to achieve but just needed some time to make it happen. By allowing herself that time, taking it slow and steady, she is now ready to put take action and share it with the world. I couldn't be much prouder as a coach!

Instead of being intimidated by the fast decision-makers (believe me, that is never our intention) around her, and the fear of missing the boat, she kept true to herself. She made it happen just as she had it visualized 🎯

The moral of the story, whatever your pace is, as long as you move forward and keep your focus on your goal, you'll get there!

And for old times sakes, I hope you don't mind me sharing the story of The Hare & The Tortoise 🐢

View in browser Hi Reader, My morning routine is religious to me. Before I get pulled in a hundred directions, before the day takes over, before the emails start lining up… I take time for myself. A little yoga. Meditation. Some reading. Journaling. Three mornings a week, the gym. A short walk after. (Yes, before you ask. I get up really early 😅) I learned a long time ago that if I don't do these things first thing, I just don't get around to them. The day eats them. So I protect that window....

View in browser Hi Reader, Last Saturday, I joined the brand new Beban Parkrun here in Nanaimo for the first time. I'm not new to Parkrun. We used to go regularly when we lived in South Africa, and I still have some lovely memories from those mornings 🏃♀️ This is me 👇🏼, 10 years ago with Wis (the then pup of very close friends of mine), you can tell from my red face this picture was taken after the Parkrun 😆 But this time was a little different. I'm slowly getting back to jogging after...

View in browser Hi Reader, Last week, I shared the story of my old bicycle and how a quick visit to the bike shop turned my sweaty 40-minute commute into a smooth 26-minute one. But something else happened that I really didn't see coming. Honestly, the reason I decided to cycle to the Chamber of Commerce wasn't profound. It was practical. I knew that if I didn't build movement into my day, I simply… wouldn't. (Anyone else? 😅) So cycling became my one-hour daily guarantee. But what surprised...
